Mary Louise Farris, a beacon of faith, love, and tireless service to her family, church, and community, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2023. Born August 1, 1951, in Waco, TX, Mary's remarkable life was dedicated to helping others and creating a rich tapestry of love and support for all who knew her.
Mary was the devoted wife of the late William Denver Farris, whom she married on December 5, 1969. Their bond was one of true love, and despite William's passing, Mary remained steadfast in her love for him, serving as a testament to a love that transcended time and space.
Mary was the cherished mother of daughters Carrie Sorrells (Jerry Sorrells) and Holly Byrd (Jeff Byrd), and the adoring grandmother to Austin Sorrells, Ashlynn Kilpatrick (Reed Kilpatrick), Kaitlyn Byrd, Avery Byrd, and Zachary Byrd. Her profound impact on their lives will continue to shape and guide them for years to come. Mary also leaves behind a large extended family and numerous dear friends, all of whom deeply mourn her loss.
A resident of Lorena, TX for many years, Mary was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Lorena. She generously gave her time as a Church Clerk for the past five years, actively participating in various church committees including the Building Committee, Nominating Committee, and the Pastor Search Committee. Her contributions to the FBC Lorena Faith & Hope Grow Group, Ladies Bible Study Group were immeasurable, and her presence will be sorely missed.
Beyond her commitment to her church, Mary was a compassionate volunteer with the Shepherds Heart Food Pantry and Mothers of Pre-Schoolers at FBC Lorena. As a member of the Lorena Garden Club and the Community Action League of Lorena, her dedication to enriching the lives of those in her community was ever-present.
To her family, Mary was the best cheerleader - her presence was a constant at games and events for her children, and in recent years, for her beloved grandchildren. Her joy was their achievements and happiness. Her fondness for travel, particularly cruising, was a favorite pastime, providing cherished memories and stories.
Her love of game nights and estate sales with friends brought much joy and laughter to her life, creating bonds that will endure even in her absence. But perhaps Mary's most outstanding quality was her unwavering devotion to her faith. As a living embodiment of Christ's love, she taught by example, showing her family, friends, and community the power of love, kindness, and forgiveness.
Mary Louise Farris will be deeply missed by all those who were fortunate enough to know her. We are comforted knowing her legacy lives on in the lives she touched, and in her enduring love that continues to guide us from above. In our hearts, Mary's light will forever shine bright.
Funeral arrangements will be held at the First Baptist Church of Lorena. The funeral service will commence at 10:00 am, Monday, June 26, 2023, followed by a receiving line immediately thereafter. Attendees will have the opportunity to pay their final respects and share condolences with the family. This ceremony will honor the life of a remarkable woman, and will serve as a testament to the profound impact she had on those around her.
If one wishes to honor Mary's memory with a charitable contribution, donations can be made to the Shepherds Heart Food Pantry at the First Baptist Church of Lorena. This organization was close to Mary's heart and serves as a testament to her selfless spirit. Through these contributions, Mary's legacy of service and compassion will continue to uplift the community she cherished so deeply.
