Mary La June Hunt Clark, 95, of Waco, passed away on September 22, 2022 with her three children
present. A visitation will be Monday, September 26 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Grace Gardens Funeral
Home, Waco. Her celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, September 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace
Gardens with interment following at Waco Memorial Park.
Mary was born June 28, 1927 in Belton, Texas to Allie Louise (Safley) and Gene Price Hunt. She was part
of a large and very close-knit family whose home was always open to others. She met James Lee Clark at
his cousin Dorothy’s house in Temple and they married the day after her sixteenth birthday, June 29,
1943. They were married for sixty-three years. Together they raised three children and had seven
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Her greatest joy in life came in caring for her family. She was
devoted to her parents and cared for them in their later years.
A lover of nature and an artist at heart, it was not unusual to find her in the garden, reading books,
painting, and bird watching. An avid bowler and sports enthusiast, she loved watching baseball. Her
favorite teams were the Atlanta Braves and any team on which her son Jimmy played.
Known as June by many of her friends, those that loved her had many names for her. Her father gave
her the nickname Chuddy, after a character from a Zane Grey novel, which she carried throughout her
life. Mother and Mimi were among her most cherished names.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Lee Clark, parents, Gene & Louise Hunt, sisters Celvia
Joy Ishmel, Doris Louise Slawson and Betty Joan Hall, brother Gene Hunt, son-in-law Mark Lightfoot,
nephews Gary Slawson and Marc Hall and niece Cindy Hook.
She is survived by her sister Sheila Margibeth Bell of Sacramento, CA, daughters Janis Lightfoot of Flower
Mound and Teresa Clark of Garrison and son Jimmy Clark and wife Karen of Waco; Grandchildren Valerie
Lightfoot McCarthy (husband Will), Clark Hudson (wife Regan), Terrie Lynn Hudson Dawson (husband
Reade), Phillip Lightfoot, Cooper Clark, Kennedy Clark and Jack Clark; Great-grandchildren Cohen
McCarthy, Madison Dawson, Rush Hudson, Stone Hudson, Roan Dawson and Carver Hudson.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Heartis Senior Assisted Living and
Memory Care and Baylor Scott and White Hospice for their love and care of our beloved Mimi.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Baylor Scott & White Hospice, The
Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, or the charity of your choice.
