Saturday, October 9, 2021, in the Chapel of Grace Gardens Funeral Home with Rev. Dr. Philip Regel officiating. Interment, with Army honors, will follow in Post Oak Cemetery near Oglesby, Texas.
Mr. Argabright was born September 25, 1928, in Oglesby, Texas, the son of the late Luther Martin and Inez Flora (Maxwell) Agrabright where he was reared and attended school. On August 13, 1946, he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served time in Japan, prior to his June 7, 1949, honorable discharge. After his discharge, he met Catherine Elizabeth Gilliland in McGregor who became the love of his life. They married on October 2, 1949, in McGregor. She preceded him in death August 9, 1982. He later met and married Norma Tucker in December of 1984. She preceded him in death on April 7, 2014.
All of his younger life, he loved camping and fishing on the local rivers and became known as one of the greatest fishermen around the counties. However, fishing on the Leon River was his passion. He caught as many catfish as he had stories to tell. He and Catherine had many fish fries for family and friends and enjoyed many camping trips with family.
It has been said, he was a jokester and those who knew him saw first hand how he delighted in making people laugh, as his laugh was contagious. He enjoyed seeing the expressions on the kids’ faces, both young and old, as he performed his MAGIC TRICKS. He passed the tricks down to Billy but still loved seeing the smiles each time. In his younger years, he could “cut a rug” on the dance floor and won many waltz contests. For many years, he loved attending county music jamborees in Texas. He will be remembered as a person who walked on six foot stilts around the neighborhood. Martin was a hardworking man and did his best to provide for his family.
Pee Paw, as the kids called him, enjoyed working on projects around the farm, especially picking up rocks. He always rewarded the children with a swim in the stock tank, which was welcomed on a hot summer day. He also paid them so much per bucket full and they seemed to think they became rich. Through the years, Martin planted many large vegetable gardens and shared the vegetables with family, friends and strangers.
For thirty years, he was employed by the Santa Fe Railroad and retired as the B&B Paint Gang Forman.
Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Kermit Argabright, James Walter Argabright; a sister, Wilma Brading.
Survivors include a son Billy Mack Agrabright; a daughter Shirley Gail Jackson and husband Larry; six grandchildren, Tony Shepherd and wife Kelly, Terri Castro and husband Frank, Travis Argabright, Trisha Clanton and husband Kurt, William Parker and wife Casey, Jessie Parker; six great grandchildren, Logan Shepherd, Kennedy Shepherd, Kreece Castro, Riley Parker Little, Payton and Madison Clanton; as well as many nieces and nephews.
