Martha loved being a mother, grandmother, wife and homemaker and took great pride in her cooking, sewing, and gardening skills. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family. She was a member of Alamo Heights Methodist Church, the Junior Leagues of Houston and San Antonio, and the Bexar County chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. In 1972, as a single mother, she became a real estate agent in San Antonio and worked to eventually become a “million dollar salesperson”. When she met and married John Gerrity, the love of her life, in 1978, she retired so they could travel. She was the ever gentle Southern lady, a true steel-magnolia. Her family and friends were the most important parts of her life.
Mrs. Gerrity was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Lucian T. Jones, Jr.; her second husband, Col. John F. Gerrity; her parents, Charles and Margaret Cart; and her sister, Jean Crutchfield.
Left to cherish her memory are daughters, Martha (Tita) Balfanz and husband Kenneth, Rebecca Burns and husband Charles; son, Lucian T. Jones III and wife Candy; eight grandchildren, Phillip Balfanz and wife Susie, Karl Balfanz, Nicholas Jones and wife Lianne, Cannon Jones and wife Megan, Colter Jones, Benjamin Burns and wife Emily, Patrick Burns, and Katherine Burns; great grandchildren Emersyn, Aubrey, and Pierce Jones, Miles Balfanz, and Holly Jones; and children by marriage, Becky Hall, John Gerrity, Jim Gerrity, and Valorie Slentz.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Phillip Balfanz, Karl Balfanz, Nicholas Jones, Cannon Jones, Colter Jones (in absentia), Benjamin Burns, and Patrick Burns.
