Martha Marie (Hartwick) Gentle

How appropriate it is that Martha Gentle left her earthly journey and into the arms of Jesus on a harvest moon night, early Sunday, October 1, 2023. Her love of having her hands in the soil was one of her greatest joys.  A visitation with the family will be from 10-11am, Thursday, October 5th, 2023 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Service at 11.  The family will have a private committal at Chapel Hill Cemetery.

Martha was an outstanding softball player and the love of this sport is what motivated her to start the first fast pitch league softball team in Midway, coaching Mauveline and the high school girls. Martha also played for Woodway United Methodist softball team.  She was a homemaker for many years, a talented seamstress and a wonderful cook. She then went to work at Woodway HEB where she made many friends before retiring after 23 years to take care of her husband.

Martha’s  Christian faith shaped her life's journey and legacy. She was a member of Woodway United Methodist Church.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Meta Hartwick; her sisters, Alzona Tacker and Marian Garmon; her son,  Charles Lynn Gentle; and her husband of 69 years, Charles Gentle.  Blessed to be her surviving family, are her daughters and son in laws, Charlotte and David Brown and Mauveline and David Hafer.  Her grandchildren are Matthew and Stacy Reeves, Elyssa and Justin Evans, Misti and Will Hicks, Emily and Derek Montgomery, bonus grandkids Chelsea Brown, Hannah and Chris Sanders and Hallie Hafer. Great grandchildren are Macie and Ryder Reeves, Skylar and Qynn Hicks,  Lakynn Moore, Saylor Shetley, and Hudson Sanders  They all brought a smile to her face and a sparkle to her eyes.  Her surviving sister and brother in law are Norvell and Roy Lasseter; nieces, Suzzane Reaves, Lorna Willhelm and nephews; Tommy and Terry Tacker.
