Margaret Gilder Nesbitt of Waco passed away at her home on March 5th, 2009. Services will be 3:00pm Sunday March 8th at First Baptist Church in Gatesville with Dr. Jay C. Riley officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville. The Family will receive visitors from 5 to 6PM on Saturday at the Gatesville Funeral Home.
Mrs. Nesbitt was born in Gatesville, Texas on October 17, 1917 to the late Dr. Otha and Hallie Chrisman Gilder. She graduated from Gatesville High School in 1935 and attended Baylor University where she was a member of the Athenian Club and her class secretary. She married William A. Nesbitt of Gatesville on August 1, 1936. He died April 14, 1968. Mrs. Nesbitt was Secretary to the Principal of Gatesville Elementary School during the 1950’s when her children were young. She was Director of South Russell Hall at Baylor University for seven years from 1968 to 1975. Mrs. Nesbitt was an active member of First Baptist Church in Gatesville all her life until moving to Waco where she taught the Bykota Sunday School Class. In 1994 she moved to Waco and joined Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, P.E.O, Daughters of the American Revolution, Baylor Adult Senior Choir, Friday Forum, Baylor Alumni Association, and the Baylor Heritage Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband William A. Nesbitt, Sr.; one sister, Bessie Earle Jackson; and nephew Horace K. Jackson, Jr.
Mrs. Nesbitt is survived by her daughters, Nancy Tindall and husband Steve of Nacogdoches; Mary Margaret Hunt and husband Don of San Antonio; son Bill and wife Dwana of Waco; niece Hallie Jo Reesing and husband Pete of San Antonio; 11 grandchildren: Ann Vawter and husband Mike of Celina; Janet Porter and husband Joel of Waco; Melanie Eddolls and husband Tony of Denver, Colorado; Jon Hunt and wife Nicole of Lumberton; Allison Hilliard and husband Joe of Corpus Christi; Bill Nesbitt and wife Sunita of Dallas; Tom Nesbitt and wife Nancy of Austin; Joe Nesbitt and wife Amanda of Waco; Kristen Nesbitt of Washington D.C.; Brady Nesbitt of Lubbock; Brett Jackson of Waco; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Jon Hunt, Bill Nesbitt, Tom Nesbitt, Joe Nesbitt, Joel Porter, Joe Hilliard, Tony Eddolls, Brady Nesbitt, Brett Jackson, and great-grandson Steve Vawter.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to Linda Shelton, Shelia Boyer, Minodora Tanase, and Sharon Chandler for their dedication and loving care of Mrs. Nesbitt. They would also like to thank the people of Providence Hospice for their kindness.
