Biography

Manuel was born July 11, 1914 in Ciudad Victoria, Mexico to Eugenio and Cleofas Hernandez. He served in the United States Army for 2 ½ years as a Mexican citizen and was a veteran of World War II. He was very proud to be selected to carry the American flag in the Rose Parade in California, after this accomplishment he was then granted his U.S. citizenship. Manuel was a member of Robinson Drive United Methodist Church and the Rio Grande Conference Organization, and is a former pastor of Latin American United Methodist for several years.
He is survived by his wife Eva Hernandez of Waco, son Robert Hernandez and wife Vickie of Waco, daughter Ester Vajo of Mesquite; grandchildren Shane Hernandez, Shanna Sheffield, Leslie Engledow, and Luke Vajo; and nine great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers for the services will be James Engledow, Martin Sheffield, Luke Vajo, Zack Sheffield, Sammy Hernandez, Shane Hernandez.
