Manfred "Hopper" Schlottmann

Manfred “Hopper” Fritz Wilhelm Schlottmann, 82, of Robinson passed away peacefully Monday, August 9, 2021, after a brief, unexpected illness surrounded by family.  A Visitation with the family will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Friday, August 20, 2021 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.  A private family interment will be at Riesel Cemetery, August 28, 2021, at 11:00 am.

“Hopper” was born October 26, 1938 to Louise Sander and Fritz Schlottmann in Diepholz, Germany.  In 1952 he and his mom immigrated to the United States, taking residence in Riesel, Texas.  He was a 1956 graduate from Riesel High School, where he set the school record for running the mile.  In 1959, he married Linda Aday and the couple had two sons who he supported in all their endeavors especially when they played sports for McGregor HS.  He became a US citizen in 1963, In El Paso, Texas while serving in the US Army.  Manfred was a long-haul truck driver and had many stories from his travels.  In 1991 he remarried, Doris Jo Sosbe, together, the couple raised their grandson as their own.  After retirement, he enjoyed the lake, auto racing, Texas Rangers, and Baylor Bear Sports.  He was a character, known for being head strong, loved to pick on people, yet was a friend to all, always looking out for others before himself.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jo; son, Craig Schlottmann; and step son, Roy Valiant, Jr.

Left to cherish his memories are his sons, Chris and wife Terri; Jared Macias; step son, Andrew Macias III; granddaughter, Ashley Meadows and husband Seth; his great grandchildren who he adored, Chance and McKenzie Meadows; a host of nieces and nephews that he help raise as his own, and numerous friends who could always count on him.
