M. Edwin York Sr. age 74, of Waco passed away peacefully on Thursday January 26, 2012 at a local nursing facility with his family by his side. Funeral Services will be Tuesday January 31, 2012 at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum with Rev. Jim Daniels officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8PM Monday January 30, 2012 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel.
Edwin was born on May 13, 1937 in Riesel, Texas to James and Mary York. He attended High School at University High School in Waco. In 1955, he joined the Air Force, and served for four years, spending a year in Iceland. He married the love of his life, Betty Dawson, also of Waco, on December 25, 1955. They were married for 56 years. Together they raised a daughter, Gina Renee, and four sons, M. Edwin Jr., Mark D., Michael J., and Matthew A. York. After the Air Force, Edwin worked for 12 years at Owen-Illinois Glass Plant. Following the glass plant, he worked for many years at Holze Music Company as a Service Tech, so he could spend more time with his boys, who were very active in baseball. He later worked in Service and Sales at L & M Wholesale Electronics until the time of his illness. He was an avid bowler, enjoyed watching sports, and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his older brother J.D. York, his twin brother, Marvin Allen York, and his sister Alta York Grant, of New York.
Edwin is survived by his loving wife, Betty, his daughter Gina York Meier, and her husband Carl, of Alvarado, Tx, his sons, M. Edwin York, Jr., Mark D. York, Michael J. York, and his wife, Sunny, and Matthew A. York, and his wife Pamela Lankford York, all of Waco. He is also survived by his sisters, Ruby York Stephens, Billie York Lee, and Margie York Johnson, all of California, and Margaret York Bodi of New York. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jennifer Coleman Pope, Amy Coleman, Jason Coleman, Eddie York III, Susan and Laura York, Paige York Jorgenson, Jill York, Alyssa York, Brady, Blake, and Adam York, and 8 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank our friends of Ridgecrest Retirement Center, Meadowbrook Baptist Church, and Cornerstone Baptist Church for all of their love, support, and prayers.
