Linda Reed Tankersley of Waco died at her home on Tuesday, September 22, 2015. She was 78. A memorial service will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Hewitt, with the Rev. Roy Marshall officiating. Visitation with Linda’s family will follow the service.
Linda was born March 4, 1937, in Southern Illinois to Lovenia and Pete Reed. She grew up in Eldorado, Illinois, and moved to San Angelo, Texas, in 1953. She married John Tankersley on Sept. 1, 1961, at Baptist Tabernacle Church in San Angelo. They moved to Waco in 1971 and celebrated nearly 52 years together before he died on May 14, 2013.
Linda worked at Hallsburg Elementary School from 1973 until her retirement in 1999. She then worked at Meals on Wheels for several years.
Linda had been a longtime member of Timbercrest Baptist Church and Columbus Avenue Baptist Church and joined First Baptist Church of Hewitt in 2009.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; her daughter April Hollerbach; and her favorite nephew David Tankersley.
Surviving Linda are her children, Melanie Hollerbach of Waco; son Kevin and wife Abby of Waco; and daughter Kara Tindell and husband Andy of Lorena; grandchildren, James Ellison IV, Jodie Ellison, Daniel Tummins, Christopher Hollerbach, Sophie Tankersley, Brazos Tankersley, Evan Tindell, Elizabeth Tindell and Emma Tindell; 10 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Joy Griffin of Bossier City, Louisiana.
Linda’s family was blessed during her illness by the good folks at Scott & White Hospice and Dr. Maydee Rosario-Reglero of Waco Lung Associates.
