Leslie, 49, lost her courageous battle of lung cancer, November 22, 2010. She passed away in her home in Speegleville with her loving family at her side. Her strength and courage amazed everyone who knew her. A memorial service, honoring her life, will be at 10:00 A.M. Saturday, November 27, 2010, at Top Hand Cowboy Church; 15123 N Hwy 6, Valley Mills, TX. Pastor Greg Moore will be officiating the service.
Leslie was born to Audette Freeman and Curtis Steele in Dallas, TX, Dec. 20, 1960. She moved to Waco in 1961. She attended University High School. In 1992, she received her bachelor degree of arts and drafting from Texas State Technical College. She married the love of her life, David Alan Kirkland, on May 3, 1997. They then moved to Speegleville. In 1998 she started her own webpage design business, 4th Gear Productions. She designed and created her own jewelry and taught jewelry making classes at The Collage.
Leslie loved the Lord, her church, her family, and all her wonderful friends. She was an active member of Top Hand Cowboy Church. Her hobbies were many, but she loved spending time with her family, the outdoors, camping, boating, Nascar Racing, and riding motorcycles with David. She adored being a part of her many friends’ lives.
Leslie was preceded in death by her parents, Audette Freeman Tate and Curtis Steele, and her grandparents.
Leslie is survived by her loving and devoted husband, David Alan Kirkland. Her two wonderful children, Cody Alan Kirkland and Levi David Kirkland, both of Robinson. Her two sisters, Tina Degner and husband Tommy of Waco, Courtney Tate George and husband Joe of Plano. Her mother and father-in-law Reta and Glynn Kirkland (Mom & Pop) of Whitney, brother-in-law, Russell Kirkland and wife Donna of Axtell, and many wonderful nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and an awesome host of friends.
Our deepest gratitude and love to Dr. David Gerber, U.T. Southwestern Hospital, Providence Hospice, Dr. Elizabeth Bellinger, Nurse Lori Smith along with all other caregivers, Pastor Greg & Karen Moore, and all the members of the Top Hand Cowboy Church.
