Laura Lee Boatman

August 28, 1916-September 13, 2010

Laura Lee Sandel Boatman passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010. Grave-side services will be at 12:30, on Wednesday, September 15, at Forest Park Cemetery on Lawndale in Houston, Texas with son-in-law Mike Nolan officiating. Laura Lee was born at home in the Mecca Community in Madison County, TX to Arthur Sandel and Lilly Mae Cole Sandel. She had four sisters and four brothers—all who have preceded her in death. Laura, a homemaker, married Rossie Milton Boatman on April 23, 1937 in Houston where they resided until his retirement from Hughes Tool Oil Company. In 1974, they returned to Madison County to enjoy the country life. Laura enjoyed gardening, cooking, canning and walking in the woods. All of her children and grandchildren relied on her for many things but most especially for “cooking questions.”

Laura is preceded in death by her husband, Ross, a son, Clyde Roy Boatman, and a great grandson, Brandon Wayne Mayeaux. Those left behind who were blessed by her sweet and funny spirit are her three daughters (and spouses) Rosann McCarter and Herbert McCarter, Claudia Joy McKinney and John McKinney, and Sandra Lee Nolan and Mike Nolan; six grandchildren (and spouses) RJ Boatman and Teri Boatman, Laura Michele Mayeaux, Landon Wayne Mayeaux and Eva Mayeaux, John Douglas McKinney and Jessica McKinney, Jason Bryan Nolan and Ariel Nolan, and Jacob Ross Nolan. Laura also influenced her eleven great-grandchildren, Rhett, Ryder, Christian, Alexander, Evan, Haylie, Lane, Matthew, Madison, Jaimen, and Lily, who learned not to get near her toes.
