Lary Earl Oliver, 68, of Bruceville, Texas passed away on Sunday, July 29th, 2018, from injuries sustained in a car accident a week earlier. A visitation will be from 10 until 11 a.m. with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m., Saturday, August 4, 2018 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Lary was preceded into death by his mother, Dolores Carr Oliver; his father, Leonard Oliver; his younger brother Leonard; and second wife Carol.
Lary attended high school in Oxnard, California where he joined the United States Air Force and served with distinction during the Vietnam War as an Aerospace Ground Equipment Operator and Supervisor. He left the Air Force after more than 10 years and taught at a Technical Trade School in Illinois before reentering the military with the United States Army. In the Army he served as a recruiter and Avionic Maintenance Supervisor. He finished his distinguished military career as a military liaison on the V-22 Osprey Project. After military retirement, he worked as a logistical engineer for several companies, most recently with L-3 Communications where he was highly regarded by his peers. Lary participated in several service organizations including the Veterans of Foreign Wars as a lifetime member, the American Legion also as a lifetime member, Shriner’s International, and as a Mason. He was active in the community, he loved playing darts, was an avid fisherman, and played golf. He was a collector of art, fond of aircraft and trains, and most of all of grilling and spending time with his family and friends.
Lary is survived by his beloved wife of 2 years, Cindy Ruth Ramsey Oliver; son, Jonathan Oliver and his wife Gillien, his granddaughters Alexandra and Samantha Oliver, all of Lorena; his sisters Belinda and Janene, and his twin brother Gary.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the Surgical Intensive Care Unit at Hillcrest Hospital in Waco, Texas for their understanding and exceptional care provided to Lary.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Diabetes Research foundation of your choice, St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, Humane Society, or charity of choice is suggested.
