Larry Burks

Larry Rush Burks of Hewitt, Texas, died on August 24, 2009 at his home. Funeral service will be 6:00 pm (Central time) on August 29, 2009 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home with the Rev. Mickey Fugate officiating. Graveside services will be held in Huntington, West Virginia, at a later date. Larry Burks was born on February 8, 1950 in Cincinnati, Ohio to Charles and Betty Burks. He grew up in Huntington West Virginia where he graduated from Huntington High school and Marshall University. He enlisted in the US Navy and was a SeaBee. After his discharge from service he returned to Huntington and met and married Pamela Fisher Burks. After 35 years with the Department of Veterans Affairs, at numerous Regional Offices, he retired as the Director of the Atlanta Regional Office and moved to Waco, Texas. He was a lifelong member of the Madison Avenue Christian Church in Huntington, West Virginia.
Larry enjoyed being retired, playing as much golf as possible and watching his Marshall University Thundering Herd, Cincinnati Reds and the Cleveland Browns. He loved Waco and all the people he met there. His sense of humor and quick wit were one of his best assets and will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Pamela Fisher Burks, two brothers, Ed and Robert (Debbi) Burks of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, one sister, Rebecca Burks Neal (Austin) of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, four brothers-in-law, Denny (Donna) Fisher of Houston, Texas, Scott (Pam) Fisher of Charleston, West Virginia, Stephen Mullins, of Charleston West Virginia, Austin Neal, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina and on sister-in-law, Debbie Fisher Mullins (Steve) of Charleston, West Virginia. Also, his dogs, Pepper and Oscar Burks and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Fuzzy Friends Animal Rescue in Waco, Texas.
