Lahoma Herron

August 5, 1921 — April 13, 2013


Lohoma Maxine McCollom Herron, 91 of Hewitt, Texas passed away in her home on April 13, 2013.
Services will be Thursday, April 25, 2013 at 10:00 am at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. Her nephew in law, Reverend Bill Scott will be officiating Lahoma’s Celebration of life.
Lahoma was born to Tom and Fannie McCollum on August 5, 1921 in Lone Wolf, Oklahoma. She was the oldest of six children.
Lahoma graduated from lone Wolf high Scholl in 1938 and married her high school sweet heart, Gene Herron. They had three children and were married for forty-two years before Gene passed away in 1981.
She and her husband owned a raw milk dairy farm. They milked, bottled and delivered milk for many years in McLean, Texas. In 1961 they moved to Paris, Texas where Lahoma opened “ Lahoma Sweete Shop” and she created weddings, Birthday partied and events. She sold the shop and retired in 1981.
Lahoma volunteered for St. Joseph Hospital and was a Hospice volunteer in Paris, Texas. She was involved in her local Garden club and had a beautiful backyard where she enjoyed her flowers and enjoyed watching the birds. At 65 she took up oil painting and hand painted between 200-300 Christmas cards each year. She taught painting and hand painting classes and cake decorating classes. She was an avid quilter. Lahoma loved to travel and was ready in a moment’s notice to get in the car and go with you. She lovingly shared her time and talents with so many others.
Lahoma moved to Waco in 2003 to be closer to her children. She was a member of th First Baptist Church of Woodway and walked her faith throughout her life. She joined the Kiwanis Club of Waco Seniors and enjoyed volunteering at Provident Heights Elementary School.
Lahoma was preceded in death by her parents, tom and Fannie McCollum , her husband, Gene Herron, her brothers, Bill McCollum, Charles McCollum, and Dale McCollum, and her sister Fannie Hodnik Lasher.
She is survived by her brother Dean McCollum and wife Alvita of Plains, Kansas and her children, daughter Lona Raymond of Waco, son Bill Herron and wife Becky of Hewitt, and son Tom Herron and wife Maudine of Shreveport, Louisiana, 15 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and 9 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and their families who loved her like a second mother.
Her family would like to thank Home Instead and providence Hospice for their loving help in her last days. A special thanks for all shared the love of this extraordinary woman of God.
