Luther Rager
May 19, 1922 – October 9, 2013
Mr. L.A. Rager (Luther Annious Rager) 91, of Moody, passed away peacefully October 09, 2013 at Scott and White Hospital surrounded by family. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2013 at Waco Memorial Park with Rev. Tom Shelton officiating. A procession from Grace Gardens to the cemetery will begin at 9:30 a.m. Visitation will be 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday, October 10, 2013 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Dr.
L.A. was born in Gonzalez, TX on May 19, 1922. He was a World War II Veteran of the European Theatre for six years. Upon his return he met Marie Young. They were married on January 17, 1948. He did many odd jobs until taking over his father’s business, Rager’s Septic and Well Rings for many years. He then began the first portable toilet business in Waco known as the Rager Company, which he owned for many years until he retired. He then took to the road on his gold wing motorcycle as a member of the Heart of Texas Motorcycle Club. Together L.A. and Marie covered many miles of the United Sates. He was awarded the oldest male driver in the Austin Road Assn. and again in 2007 at the Annual Minden Open Bike/Trike Rally.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father Lola and A. Rager; sisters, Nettie Shelton, Ethel Martin, and Alma Dudley; daughter, Gilda Ann Reed; and his beloved beagles, Lover I and Lover II.
L.A. is survived by his wife, Marie;daughters, Kathy Foit and husband Ronny, Debbie Spivey and husband, Bill, Lorrie Metcalf and husband, Roy, Sherry McDowell and husband Fred; son, Bud Rager and partner, Rachel; 12 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.
The family would like to thank Dr. Allinson, Dr. Day and Dr. Jenson for the excellent care and service. Also, the exceptional staff at Scott and White Hospital in Temple.
