Kurt Slaughter

Kurt was born December 22, 1926, in Waco, to Annie Wheeler Thrasher and Pete Leland Slaughter. In 1950 he married the love of his life, Clarine Griffith. Kurt served in the US Naval Forces during WWII and upon returning to Waco was employed by Cogdell’s Hardware and then the US Postal Service, retiring after 32 years of service. After retirement he enjoyed working with Blume Irrigation and Texas Irrigation.

Kurt was an avid hunter and fisherman and shared that passion with his son and grandsons. He also loved to read. Kurt loved his family and was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. The grandkids will remember Papaw for the loving fun and humor that he shared with them. His love of nature can still be seen from the trees in his yard to their feathered inhabitants. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by so many.

Kurt was preceded in death by his father, Pete Slaughter; mother and step-father, Annie and Sam Miles; sister, Linda Miles.

Kurt is survived by his loving wife of almost 60 years, Clarine Slaughter; son, Kurt, Jr., & Janet of Waco/Lake Limestone; daughter, Kim Slaughter, Waco; granddaughter, Kara & Michael Gensert, Killeen; grandsons, Jace Slaughter & fiancée, Haley Hall, Waco; Josh Jones & fiancée, Robin Kirby, Waco; and Jantzen Slaughter, College Station; eagerly awaited & soon-to-be-born great-granddaughter, Margaret Ann (Maggie) Gensert; sisters, Shirley & Bob Garrett, Farmerville, La; Pauline Pryor, Waco; Nancy & Ray McEnroe, Gatesville; numerous nieces & nephews, other relatives & many friends.
