Kitty Maxwell

May 26, 1941 — May 9, 2024

Kitty Bates Thomas Hartley Maxwell was born to John Thomas and Margaret Northcutt Thomas in Texarkana Arkansas. She graduated from St Edwards School in 1959 and from Sacred Heart Dominican College in Houston in 1963. She was valedictorian of both her high school and college classes.

After graduation from college in 1963, she and her lifelong friend Dorothy Heintz Stinson joined the Extension Society.  They were sent to Fort Smith, Arkansas as nurses and missionaries for 1 yr.  While there she met her husband, Melvin Hartley, who was in the Army stationed at Fort Chaffee.

They were married 20 yrs.  They moved to Amarillo for his job as an adjuster for State Farm Insurance. There they had Julie Marie and John Christopher.  From there they moved to Corsicana for 2 yrs, then to Hewitt where she lived the rest of her life. She retired from the Waco VA after 20 yrs. Service. She met and married Robert Maxwell whom she was married to for 10 yrs. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, by her son John Hartley, by her great granddaughter Bentley Sharp, and by her lifelong friend Dorothy Rose Heintz Stinson

She is survived by her daughter Julie Marie Hartley Sharp and her husband Tom Lee Sharp, her brothers Charles Thomas of Texarkana, Tx and James Thomas of Conway Ark. By her grandchildren, their wife’s and sons, Tommy Lee Sharp, Michael Lee Sharp, Ashley Hartley and Nicholas Hartley.
