Kenneth Engelbrecht, a long time Crawford resident, passed away Wed. March 23, 2016, at the age of 75. The funeral will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016, at Canaan Baptist Church with Dr. Samuel (Dub) Oliver officiating. Interment will follow in Canaan Baptist Cemetery, under the direction of Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Drive, Waco. Visitation will be from 6:00 pm to 8:00 p.m. Monday in the Chapel of Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Mr. Engelbrecht was born to the late Benjamin Franklin and Earlien (Freyer) Engelbrecht on March 18, 1941, in Waco, Texas. He was valedictorian of his graduating class of 1959 at Crawford High School. He later continued his education at Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Texas A & M Corps of Cadets and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Poultry Science in 1963, graduating Summa Cum Laude.
Much of his life was spent in the Crawford area where he was engaged in farming and ranching. On March 20, 1988, he married Susan Marie Taylor in Crawford. He was admired and respected by many friends and family members in the Crawford community. He will be remembered for being plain-spoken, honest, and loyal to a fault. After selling the ranch to then Governor George W. Bush, he served as ranch foreman for the former President from 1999-2005.
Survivors include his wife, Susan Engelbrecht, two sons, Kevin Engelbrecht and wife Rita, and Kyle Engelbrecht; two daughters, Kimberly Mills and husband Paul, Ginny Gohlke and husband Burt; a sister, Jo Ann Hicks and husband George; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Engelbrecht family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Dr. Charles Stern and his nurse Jennifer Carpenter as well as the nursing and hospice staff at Baylor Scott and White Hillcrest for their gracious and compassionate care.
As a celebration of Kenneth’s lifestyle, western attire is welcomed and encouraged by the family for both the visitation and the funeral.
