Kathy "Kathy" Smith

June 29, 1954 — August 8, 2012

Mary Kathleen (Kathy) Leutwyler Smith died peacefully at her home and joined her mother with the Lord in the early morning hours of August 8, 2012. A memorial service will be held Saturday, August 18, 2012, at 10:00 a.m., at Grace Gardens Funeral Home with Rev. James Stevens officiating.

Kathy was born June 29, 1954 to Cooke and Shirley Rose Leutwyler of Hewitt, Texas. She traveled the world and attended school in England, Bryan TX, Bellevue NE, Lorena TX and graduated high school at Chofu High School, just outside of Tokyo, Japan. She joined the Army in 1973 as a communications specialist. Following service to her country she attended MCC and Baylor University. She met and married Charles Draper while stationed in Germany. The light in her eyes, Ryan Cooke Draper, was born to Charles (Charley) and Kathy on April 15, 1980. Kathy married Henry Nathanial (Nat) Smith on December 3, 1995, joining two families into one. Henry and Kathy adopted Samuel Hoerster in 1997. Kathy retired from the US Postal Service in Sept 2009.

Kathy stated that "I had a wonderful life" and through her faith in her Lord and savior Jesus Christ knew she would be joining her mother in Heaven. Kathy was devoted to her family, loved her friends, gave from her heart and loved to laugh.

She was a very kind and giving person as anyone that has met her would say. It was such a blessing to have Kathy in our lives for many reasons, not the least of which were her quick, witty humor and her adventuresome spirit. Her capacity for love was enormous and she always placed others before herself, unless she was playing a board game. Her greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. She also enjoyed antiquing and gardening. She will be greatly missed.

Kathy was proceeded in death by her mother, Shirley Rose (Hyman) Leutwyler.

She is survived by her husband Henry; sons Ryan and Sam; step-daughters Dana Patzke and Amanda Collins; father Cooke Leutwyler; brothers, Larry Leutwyler and Mark Leutwyler; sister Lisa Leutwyler Stewart; and many nieces, nephews, neighbors, colleagues and friends worldwide.

She generously contributed to several charities. In lieu of flowers please send memorials to the charity of your choice.
