Julius Jinkins

Julius Luther Jinkins, Jr passed away in Waco, Texas April 7, 2015. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. April 17, 2015 at Grace Episcopal Church, 1115 36th St, Galveston.

Dr. Jack, as he was lovingly called by many, was born August 5, 1923 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Galveston. He attended public schools in Galveston graduating from Ball High School in 1940. He attended the University of Texas in Austin, and was a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. With WWII in full force, Jack joined the US Navy and was briefly assigned to the Naval Air Station in Corpus Christi before entering the University of Texas Medical School in Galveston fall 1943. He was on a fast track for training and moving doctors into active duty. Jack graduated from medical school February 14, 1947, completed an internship year at Philadelphia General Hospital, and returned to UTMB Galveston to complete a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He was a member of Phi Beta Pi medical fraternity and of Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. Upon completion of residency, Jack joined his father, Julius L. Jinkins, Sr in medical practice. He practiced medicine over 38 years serving multiple generations of women, delivering over 7,000 babies,before retiring in 1989.

Jack married Anne Menard Jinkins in January 1979. In their 35 happy years of marriage they enjoyed traveling, golf, family, friends, and the joys of life together. Jack enjoyed fishing and hunting, activities that he had shared with his father, and also became an avid golfer. Whether at home on the island or on vacation, you could find Jack on the golf course. Jack and Anne also shared the joy of worshiping together at Grace Episcopal Church where they were active members, serving as an usher and member of the Foundation Board.

During Jack’s medical career, he had a great interest in fertility, treating patients and authoring a number of papers on the subject. His honors and recognitions include: President of Texas Ob/Gyn Association, Secretary of the Central Texas OB/Gyn Association, Diplomat of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and the Ashbel Smith Distinguished Alumnus Award from UTMB. Jack was also very proud to be both a York and a Scottish Rite Mason and received the honor of Knight Commander of the Court of Honor in 2002.

Dr. Jack was preceded in death by his wife Anne, his parents, Dr. Julius L Jinkins and Kittie Fae Jinkins, his son Julius L Jinkins, III (Jay), his stepson, Michael J. Tabor, and his sister Kittie Jinkins Livesay.

Jack leaves behind two daughters, Ann Jinkins and her partner, Staci Hubbard, of Austin, and Ana Alongi of Ft. Myers Florida; two stepdaughters, Vicki Tabor of Waco, Dr. Debra Tabor and her partner, Donna Aversano, of Houston; 6 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 3 nephews. Dr. Jack was honored, respected, and most of all, dearly loved by family, friends, and patients…. Always a gentleman through and through…

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated for Jinkins Hall at Grace Episcopal Church, 1115 36th Street, Galveston, or to the charity of your choice.
