Julie Johnson Haney was born in Waco, Texas on September 2, 1971. She passed away on October 22nd,
2021 at Ascension Providence Hospital in Waco, Texas. Julie was preceded in death by her grandparents
Tom and Eugenia Johnson of Mc Gregor, Texas; as well as Franklin and Doris Westerfeld of China Spring,
Texas. She was survived by her granddaughter Kamryn Leazar of Waco, Texas; her daughter and her
daughter’s husband Savana and Kyle Leazar of Waco, Texas; her son Thomas Gunner Smith of Wylie,
Texas; her father and stepmother Jim and Andrea Johnson of Waco, Texas; her mother and stepfather
Barbara and Jeffrey Kirkpatrick of Gladewater, Texas; her brothers and their wives Adam and Melissa
Johnson from Robinson, Texas; and Andrew and Lacie Johnson from Bosqueville, Texas; her stepsister
Jennifer Hodnett of Waco, Texas; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Julie worked at
Heart of Texas Goodwill Industries in the accounting department for over 10 years.
Julie was a fierce protector of the people she cared for. Whether you were family or friends, she would
build you up and keep the negativity away. Watching people succeed and be happy was what made her
smile. She jumped at every chance to have her family gather, whether it be at the lake, by a fire, or even
her favorite “cabin number six”. Julie’s favorite time of year was the holidays especially Thanksgiving.
Julie recognized that Thanksgiving was an opportunity to showcase her superior culinary skills and
provide wanted or unwanted tips on how everyone else could improve their dishes. Julie’s gift giving on
Christmas was also a showcase. She would spend countless hours throughout the year researching the
perfect gift for each person. Sometimes she used this as an opportunity to let you know she knew your
secrets with that gift that only you would know the meaning.
Julie packed so much love and care into the short 50 years that she was here, leaving the bar set so high
it would take some of us several lifetimes to achieve. We love you Julie and will miss you dearly.
