Joyce (Rentz) Riggs

April 4, 1938 — August 12, 2020

Waco

Joyce Louise Rentz Riggs, our beautiful blue-eyed mother, was called to feast at the Lord’s table early Wednesday morning, August 12, 2020.

Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday August 22, 2020, with funeral services at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Grace Garden’s Funeral Home, with Dr. Joe Bailey officiating.  Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Joyce was born April 4, 1938, in Appling County, Georgia, to Rev. Cornelius David Rentz and Gladys Louise Holland Rentz.  After high school, Joyce attended Freewill Baptist Bible College where she met Charles Preston Riggs.  They were married June 16, 1958, in Baxley, Georgia.  Joyce enjoyed a long career with the Department of the Air Force before retiring after 30 years in civil service.

Each morning, our mother would sit at the kitchen table reading her daily devotion, praying and studying the Sunday School lesson beside the bay window.  Our mother, a lady of great faith, had a servant’s heart.  Her hands displayed the love and care she provided to us and will be forever etched in our hearts.

Our mother was a dedicated wife and caretaker to our father.  Her broken heart is healed.

Joyce loved her grandchildren and enjoyed preparing their favorite dishes for family gatherings.  Many fond memories have enriched the lives of each of them.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Charles Preston Riggs, nephew, Bobby Carter, brother in law, James Carter, sister in law, Joyce Rentz, niece, Amy Rentz, brother David Rentz, and in laws, Rev. Raymond Riggs, Winona Riggs, and Bea Riggs.

Left to cherish her memories are children Darin and Tami Riggs, David Justin and Dara Nix, grandchildren, Haley and Zach Williams, Brendon Riggs and fiancé Jordan Whittle, Sydney Riggs, Mackenzi  Delony, and Mason Delony.  Great grandchildren Rory, Harlow, and Price Williams.
