Jose Ybarra

February 3, 1964 — October 23, 2024

Jose “Papo” Estevan Ybarra passed away on Wednesday, October 23, 2024, in Waco, Texas. Services will take place at Grace Gardens Funeral Home on Saturday, November 2, 2024, beginning at 11 am, a time of visitation with family and friends will take place the hour prior to the service.

Jose was born on February 3, 1964, in Lubbock, TX to Porfirio Lopez Ybarra and Maria Celestina Sanchez Ybarra. Known as Papo to his family and childhood friends, he always made sure to live his life to the fullest. 

Papo enjoyed his life, and in his younger years you would find him riding around listening to heavy metal, attending concerts and drinking and cutting up to whomever wanted to join him. Wherever Papo went, laughter and a good time followed. 

At age 17 he joined the military where he served his country in the United States Army. Jose went on to become a member of the local electrical union, IBEW 72, where he served as president and union steward. He was dedicated to the union and loved all the men and women members that he had the pleasure of working with. He worked as an electrical journeyman until his retirement in 2015. Win or lose, Papo was a ride or die Dallas Cowboys fan. 

In July 2003 he would meet Suzan Cox. On August 13, 2005, they were married in Hewitt, Tx. Jose and his daughter, Amanda Martin and Suzans daughter, Megan Woolbright where all brought together as a family and many memories and cherished times were made. The families love grew and 4 precious grand babies were welcomed, whom Jose loved and cherished immensely. 

Jose is survived by his wife, Suzan Ybarra, loving daughter, Amanda and husband David Martin. Granddaughters Gracelynn Annette and Madison  Alyse, Daughter Megan and husband Buddy Kerby, Granddaughters, Olivia Annabele and Abbagail Paige mother-in-law, Lola Cox and his loyal and loving companion Don Cheppo. Siblings, Jovita Prince, Porfirio (Angie) Ybarra, Genoveva Eva (Leo) Esquivel, Josie (Tony) Licon, Maria (Ruben) Vera and Maria (Felix) Cantu. Sister- in - laws, Karen Cox and Sally (Rayford) Taylor, as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. 

Preceded in death by his father, Porfirio Lopez Ybarra and mother, Celestina Sanchez Ybarra and sister, Juanita “Janie” Ybarra Garcia.


Jose Ybarra will be In State for visitation on Friday, November 1st from 10:30 to 4:30
