John Ousley

December 26, 1936 — September 28, 2012

John Roy Ousley, 75, died on Friday, September 28, 2012, in Waco, after an extended illness. A liturgy of Burial and Holy Communion will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, 1624 Wooded Acres Drive, Waco, TX., with the Right Reverend Rayford B. High, Jr., presiding and the Reverend John Wells, preaching. A brief time of greeting those in attendance will immediately follow.

A resident of Waco for nearly 44 years, John was born in the East Texas community of Craft, Cherokee County, to Parkes Fuller “Jack” Ousley and Ola Mae Evans Ousley. An accomplished athlete in both football and track & field, he graduated from Palestine High School in 1956 and attended Sam Houston State Teachers College in Huntsville, TX. After marrying his high school sweetheart, Faye Holcomb, in 1958, they lived in Huntsville, Palestine, Richardson, and Waxahachie prior to moving to Waco in 1968. He retired from Texas Utilities (formerly Texas Power & Light) in 1992 after 30 years in Customer Service. During his retirement, he enjoyed fishing with family and friends, refurbishing antiques, and following Lady Bears Basketball, but his strength came from the joy of seeing his two sons ordained in the Episcopal Church and his five beloved grandchildren grow into outstanding young people.

He is survived by his wife of almost 54 years, Faye Holcomb Ousley; sister and brother-in-law, Patricia Ousley Tubbs and Billy Tubbs; sons and daughters-in-law, Todd Ousley and Ann Schumann-Ousley of Saginaw, MI, and Lance Ousley and Jenness Bundy Ousley of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Ian Ousley of Lincoln, NE, Dae and Josh Ousley of Saginaw, MI, Parkes Ousley of Austin, TX, Evans Ousley of Seattle, WA; and, numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit, the American Lung Association, or the American Heart Association.
