John Oglethorpe

John Howard Oglethorpe, 93, passed away Sunday, Dec. 6, after an illness. He was born in Teague, lived most of his life in Beaumont, and had been a resident at the Cottages of Oak Springs in Waco for the past five years. He attended Stonegate Community Church in Waco and was a member of West End Baptist Church in Beaumont. A visitation will be held Saturday, Dec. 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at Grace Gardens, 8220 Woodway Drive in Waco. An additional visitation will be Monday, Dec. 14, at 1 p.m., followed by funeral at 2 p.m., at Broussard's Mortuary, 2000 McFaddin Ave. in Beaumont. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Faye Lout Oglethorpe. He is survived by daughters Bonnie Emmons and husband Win III of Waco and Kim Oglethorpe Matkin and husband Mike of Irving; grandchildren Win Emmons IV of Waco and Melissa Matkin of Irving; and several nieces and nephews.
