John Beers

John Beers, of Gholson, passed away May 16, 2014. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 20 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home with C.W. Whorton officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford Cemetery with Military Honors.

John was born May 26, 1944 in Dewitt Missouri. At the age of 18, he enlisted in the military and proudly served his country in the Air Force. This is where he learned paint and body, a craft he perfected over the course of 45 plus years. John had a great fondness/obsession for motorcycles. He bought his first one at the age of 12. His first purchase was Sears and Roebuck Allstate motorcycle that he hid from his mama for several years by parking it down the street at a friend’s house. Later in life it was not uncommon for him to purchase a new bike, drive it off the showroom floor to his paint and body shop for an immediate color change.

John was preceded in death by his father, Lester Beers and his daddy Aubrey Jones, sister, Lillian Beers.

He is survived by his good hearted woman and wife of 33 years, Ruth Beers; son, Randy Beers and wife Charmaine; son, Harold Schoonover and wife Brenda; daughter, Cindy Addington and husband Rick; son, Johnny Schoonover and wife Denise; daughter Sheila Zawacki and husband T.J.; son, John Beers and wife Tina; son Ronnie Schoonover and wife Shannon; mother, Dolly Jones; sisters, Toni Honeycutt, Ora Lee Phelan and husband Tom; brother, Aubrey Jones and wife, Lorna. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Bill Mohan, Steve Cook, Steve Harris, Sam Clayton, Ryan Hancock and Roger Aliff. Honorary Pallbearers will be the American Legion Post 121. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Legion Post 121 at 772 Leroy Parkway (FM 308) Elm Mott, Texas 76640 c/o Bill Mohan.
