Barbara Joan Falta, 86, of Waco, passed peacefully on August 15, 2021 after a courageous battle with dementia.
Joan was born January 21, 1935 in Jacksonville, Florida, the daughter to Silas Mercer and Lucille Bishop, the sister to Mary Lou “Kitty” Mott.
Joan ‘s passion for college football started at a very young age sitting with her grandmother listening to the games on the radio. Her choice was Baylor University which she received a degree in English. Her blood flowed green and gold from then on. Moving back to Jacksonville, Florida she met her husband a fellow teacher Richard Falta in Jacksonville. Richard and Joan had a wonderful marriage of 62 years. Loving the change of seasons the pair moved to Long Island, NY. For 2 years using their summer breaks, the couple both received a Masters of Education at the University of Florida. She loved her long career as a teacher.
Joan enjoyed raising award winning African violets, camping, National Parks, the LI life, ventures into NYC and loving her daughter Karen Lynn along with her husband. The couple moved to Waco, Texas so Joan could be close to her beloved Baylor. 25 years they traveled to each home and away football games. Even when she could not recognize her loved ones. She could sing the Baylor line through and though.
Joan was a person of strong faith and loved the Lord. Joan has left much love and amazing memories for the ones she loved and they loved her.
