Jo Carol Schraeder

Jo Carol (Seay) Schraeder of McGregor passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday March 30,2024 surrounded by her loving children. She had suffered from dementia for seven years. Graveside service will be 2pm, Saturday, April 13th at McGregor Cemetery.

Jo Carol was born on May 2,1943, the sixth child of Sam J. and Flossie (Gordon) Seay. She was raised in Mt. Calm, Texas. She attended Hubbard High School before moving to McGregor, her senior year.  She graduated from McGregor High School in 1961.

Upon moving to M Gregor, she worked at Evers Corner Drug, where she met her lifelong love, Ray Schraeder.  She and Ray married June 8, 1961, at Zion Lutheran Church. They made McGregor their home where they raised their three children.

Jo Carol was an incredibly gifted seamstress. She used her talents to sew everything from draperies and other home decor, costumes for her children’s school plays, dance recitals, prom dresses and wedding dresses.

In her later years she loved making homemade jams, jellies, and peanut brittle, selling her goods at local craft shows. She enjoyed meeting with other vendors and making new friends during that time.

Jo Carol was happiest when taking care of her family. She had a servant’s heart taking care of her elderly mother, helping with her mother and father in-law, raising her Children, and keeping grandchildren and great grandchildren. She always put the needs of her family above her own.

The love she had for others was an extension of the love she shared with her Lord and Savior. She accepted Jesus Christ and was baptized at age thirteen. Her faith and trust in Him remained strong always.

Jo Carol was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Ray Schraeder, brothers Horace Seay and wife Louise, Buddy Seay and wife Jeanete, Ray Seay and wife Patsy, sisters, Lola Solero and husband Sonny and Faye Seay.

She is survived by her children, daughter Robin Grisham and husband Jerry of New Braunfels, daughter Marla Klander and son Marty Schroeder both of McGregor; grandchildren, Jed Guthrie (Amanda), Jerry L. Grisham (Della), Kenny Grisham (Christy), Ashley Shelton (Brian), Heather Aviles (Joe), Landon Boyd (Paxton), Savanah Fields (Noah) and Colton Schraeder, 13 great grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family is thankful for the care given by Dr. James T. Graham, the staff of Accent Care Hospice, Hospice nurse Sharon Bradford-Irwin, and visiting angel Linda Wollard.

Memorials may be given to the Alzheimer’s Association or the charity of your choice.
