Jimmy Douglas Maddox (born Jan. 4th, 1949) passed away into the arms of his beloved Savior, Jesus on Dec. 14th, 2022.
Doug was born in Lubbock, Texas to Betty and Jimmie Maddox. Doug’s youth was spent traveling around America with his parents; he had lived in New Mexico, Georgia, and Colorado, before his family settled down in Waco, Texas in 1977.
It was in Waco that he met and fell in love with his loving and devoted wife of 42 years, Alice Pickens. The two were married on July 26th, 1980.
In 1990, his oldest daughter, Alicia Marie Maddox was born, and in 1993, his youngest, Laura Lee Maddox was born.
Doug Maddox was a long time and dedicated employee of American Bank of Waco for 33 years working as a courier.
Doug was part of a now dying breed of men left in the world. As part of the millennial generation, Alicia and Laura Maddox were deeply blessed to have had such a devoted and special father. Doug was fiercely loyal to his family and gave all of his time, health and attention to their care and wellbeing.
Though socially quiet at times, Doug never met a stranger in life, and always greeted friends and strangers alike with a “howdy” and a handshake. He was easy to talk to and his favorite subjects to talk about were Bible prophecy, war history and politics.
Doug was a student of the bible and was deeply devoted to his faith in Christ. If anyone in his family had a question on the scriptures, they would always look to him for wisdom and advice. Doug’s bold and open declaration of God was what led his oldest, Alicia to salvation in 2004 and his youngest, Laura, in 2021. Doug diligently prayed for those he cared for every single night of his life.
Among Doug’s hobbies were his love of reading, watching movies and star gazing.
Later in life, Doug became dear friends with David Schuppe, a member of First Baptist Woodway, and Randall Sandager, of Lorena, Texas.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Sally Swanson, and his parents, Betty, and Jimmie Maddox. He is survived by his wife, Alice Maddox, his two daughters, Alicia, and Laura Maddox, and numerous friends whom he considered family including; David Schuppe, Randall Sandager and his wife Sharon, their children Analise, Kalan, Joshua and Rosie, Ginger Sheppard, Bob and Loretta Bosley, Darrell and Martha Pausky, Bella and Calvin Beason, Jerry and Anita Dawson, Millie and Rick Alford, and Curt and Carolyn Roorda.
