Jimmy was born on November 24, 1960 to James M. (Jim) and Nancy Summers in Corpus Christi, Texas. After graduating from Dunwoody High School in Dunwoody, Georgia, he attended Texas A&M University while working full time at KBTX TV in Bryan, Texas. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1989 with a degree in Electrical Engineering Technology.
After Graduating from Texas A&M, Jimmy held positions with Texas A&M Extension Services, Central Freight Lines, Region 12 Education Service Center in Waco, and then became a Master Instructor of Computer Networking and Systems Administration at T.S.T.C. - Waco. His most recent position, which he really loved, was with Baylor University as Senior Consultant - Faculty Research for the Academic & Research Computing Services.
Although Jimmy was known for spending long hours at work, he was also known for his "extreme" activities. In an article from the T.S.T.C. Tech Times, he said, "I've done some things few other people will do. I've experienced free-falling from up to 14,500 feet and have seen some of the most beautiful sunsets from in the clouds. I've played hockey with people from the National Hockey League and with personnel from teams like the Dallas Stars. In motorcycle racing, I've ridden with some of the best people in the world."
He is described as a very religious man; completely trustworthy and dependable; compassionate, patient and kind; always ready to lend a helping hand wherever he was needed. He would go out of his way to help in any situation, and expected nothing in return. He was a professional Superbike and motorcycle safety instructor and was a member of CMRA and Ride Smart. He was the administrator of the Baylor super-computer, one of the few super-computers in the nation. He organized the formation of the Texas A&M Hockey team and most recently was the coach of the Baylor Hockey Team. Jimmy was also an avid scuba diver and snow skier. Every Sunday he was in the church choir singing “the right notes” in the tenor section at First United Methodist Church in Temple. His recordings of church, school, and other performances were known for their excellence.
In jimmy's words, “It's not just the thrill. It's not just being a daredevil. It's deeper...It pushes my knowledge, increases my faith in God and my appreciation for this earth and what he's given me. He's given me the ability to do all this.” He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know him. God's speed,Jimmy!
