Jerry Ann Mattlage

Jerry Mattlage passed away at St. Anthony’s Care Center on December 1st, 2024 in Waco, Texas at the age of 85. She spent her final days surrounded by those she loved.

Jerry was born on September 1st, 1939 in Turnersville, Texas at home where her parents operated the telephone office. She is the daughter of Clarence L. Byrd and Letha Corina Rowe Byrd. She was raised and baptized at the first Baptist church in Stephenville, Texas. She was a graduate of Stephenville High School and was a stingerette all four years.

Jerry married Billy Bob Golson in 1959. They moved to Fort Belvoir, VA, before moving abroad. She lived in the Philippines, Netherlands, England, and Scotland. During those years she traveled all over Europe. Until her death, she always reflected on those memories. In this union she had four amazing children.

Jerry and her kids relocated to Crawford, Texas in the 70’s. She loved her home and took great pride in it and the land surrounding it. She push mowed the entire four acres and considered that her favorite hobby. Jerry also was a great holiday host. Her family Christmas’s were truly epic. From her homemade food and desserts to her beautifully crafted stockings. She always picked out the largest real Christmas Tree she could find. She also loved Halloween and enjoyed sewing costumes for her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Jerry worked for thirty three years at various jobs. She spent most of her years at Spenco as a telemarketer and retired from J-Mar in 2008. She always put in the extra mile to beat out everyone and win the prize.

Jerry married Larry Mattlage on May 30th, 2003, she moved to his farm and they named it “High Prairie Acres”. Larry fondly called her Jerry Ann. They were married for twenty one years and were able to be together until six days before her passing. They both loved living in the country surrounded by cows, sheep and their donkey, Dixie.

Jerry’s greatest love was her family, to whom she definitely passed on her unique ways. Jerry was a force to be reckoned with. She lived life her way. 

She is preceded in death by her parents; sister, Shirley Taylor; brother-in-law, R.C. Taylor; infant brother, Clarence L. Byrd, Jr.; Grandson, Adam Perez; son, Dustin Mattlage.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Mattlage; children, Robert Golson and wife Rachel, Robin (Puff) Dieterich and husband Ronnie, Rhonda Parmer and husband Billy, Roxanne Ford and husband Julian, Michael Mattlage and wife Staci; grandchildren, Rikki, Bradley, Rachel, Ronnie, Jeremy, Colt, Sonya, Nick, Adam, Rayley, William Ray, Roman, Rebekah, Raquel, Rocky, Rambo, Reid, Eva, Jordan and Garrett; great grandchildren, London, Lila, Leyton, Lux, Eric, Greyson, Sabrina, Sylas, Harlow, Harbour, Will, River Jo; nephew, Chad Taylor.

Mom loved to country dance, we know she is in Heaven dancing away.

Pall Bearers will be her grandsons at a private family service.
