Blake was born December 20, 1987 in Odessa, Texas, to Sherri Andrews and Darrell Andrews and returned to his heavenly home on February 7, 2013. Blake attended school in Odessa and graduated from Permian High School in May 2010. Prior to being diagnosed with adrenoleukodystrophy in 1995, Blake was a gifted student and a talented gymnast who regularly beat the socks off anyone who dared to challenge him at 21 or ‘Guess Who’. Following the diagnosis, Blake underwent a bone marrow transplant at Cook Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth, Texas, and true to his character, defied the odds, rewrote medical history, and became a hero to many people who will never know his name.
Blake was preceded in death by his little brother, Phillip “Flipper” Andrews. He is survived by his mother, Sherri Andrews of Waco, TX; father, Darrell Andrews of Odessa, TX; sister, Elizabeth Andrews Ballinger and brother-in-law Ethan, of Plano, Texas; grandparents Rob and Kathy Childers of Albany, TX, and M.G. and Mamie Andrews of Odessa, TX; aunts Jeannie Phillips of Odessa, Gail Slater and husband Stan of Plano, TX, and Penney Moore and husband Mike of Wichita Falls, TX; cousins Haley Roan and husband Kyle of McKinney, TX, Jason Slater and wife Jennifer of McKinney, TX, Staci Ribera of Plano, TX, Dustin Looney and wife Amber of Fort Worth, TX, Rhonda Looney of Odessa, TX, Natalie Uranga and husband Paul of League City, Lori Tomlinson and husband Chance of Odessa, TX; longtime loving caregiver Juanita Perkins of Odessa, TX; grandparents of the heart Tommy and Linda Slater of Odessa, TX.
A memorial service will be held February 16, 2013, at Mid-Cities Community Church in Midland, TX, at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Clark Racca officiating. The memorial message will be delivered by Dr. William Feeler, PhD. A private interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Odessa, TX.
Deepest thanks to all the nurses and physicians who assisted with Blake’s medical care over the years and made it possible for him to be at home with his family. We are also indebted to the staff at St. Catherine Center in Waco, TX for their support and care during the last year and in the midst of his final illness.
