Biography

Jean Montgomery Taylor, 86, of Hernando, MS passed away Sunday, August 13, 2017 in Waco, TX . A celebration of her life will take place in Hernando MS at a later date.

Jean was born on October 12, 1930 in Kosciusko Mississippi to John and Margaret Montgomery. Jean attended Mississippi College for Women for two years, and then transferred to the University of Mississippi, where she graduated with a degree in Education. While at Ole Miss, she was an active member of the PHI MU Sorority. She married Stanley E. Taylor Jr. on November 10th, 1956. She was involved in many volunteer and civic organizations throughout her time in Memphis and Hernando. She was a member and officer in the Republican Women’s club of Memphis and DeSoto County, the Josephine Circle, the Kennedy Book Club, the Kings Daughters, Phi Mu Alumnae Association, and also served the American Cancer Society. Jean was a lifetime member of the University of Mississippi Alumni Association and enjoyed attending Ole Miss football games. She was active in her church – both Whitehaven Presbyterian Church and Hernando Presbyterian Church. She volunteered at her children’s school – Memphis Preparatory School – and was a frequent substitute teacher there. She enjoyed time with her friends and playing in several different bridge groups.

Her parents John Wallace Montgomery and Margaret Noah Montgomery preceded her in death.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Stanley Taylor of Hernando, MS and Memphis, TN; daughter, Tam Taylor Dunn, and husband Mark Dunn of Waco, TX; son, Monty Taylor, and wife Kim Taylor of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Ashley Dunn Norris, and husband Derek of Waco, Aineta Dunn of Waco, and Shelby and Noah Taylor of Colorado Spring, CO.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hernando Presbyterian Church, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the Four Seasons/Memory Inc. Germantown, TN.
