Jean Montgomery was joyfully welcomed into Heaven on May 23, 2014. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 28, at Crestview Church of Christ with Ministers Scott Talley and Bert Mercer officiating. Burial will be 4:00 p.m. later that day at Valley Mills Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening, May 27, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Drive.
Jean was born March 1, 1954 in Waco to Frankie May Huff and Edker Pritchard, but her family moved to Houston when she was six weeks old. They returned to Waco after the death of her father when Jean was ten years old. She attended Kendrick Elementary, University Junior High (where she met Don Montgomery), and University High. She was a member of the Highlighters Drill team and active in the Girls Athletic Association (GAA) at University.
Jean and Don were married August 9, 1974 in Waco. Jean received her B.A. degree and teacher certification from Mary Hardin Baylor in 1976. She taught school in Killeen, Axtell, Robinson and Henderson ISDs. Upon becoming a mother, Jean quit teaching in order to stay home and be with their children. Don worked for TXU during their married life living in Killeen, Waco, Arlington and Henderson, Texas.
In 2006, Jean and Don moved back to Waco and Jean became a part of the Baylor University family employed as Director of Risk Management Services.
Jean was an avid softball and volleyball player. She was a gracious hostess who enjoyed entertaining at home as well as at church. She was known for her ready smile and sense of fun. As an active member of Crestview Church of Christ, she helped establish the Mothers Day Out program, taught Sunday School and was involved with the Ladies Ministry.
Preceding her in death were father, Edker Pritchard; mother, Frankie Pritchard Millsaps; and step-father, Bill Millsaps.
Jean is survived by her husband, Don Montgomery; son, Dusty; daughter, Meredith Willis and husband, Matt; grandchildren, Sara Austin, Matthew, and Addalyn; sister, Kay Moore O’Brien and husband, Bob; brother, Wayne Pritchard and wife, Vicki; sister-in-law, Darlene Kyser and husband, Don; uncle, Bruce Huff and wife, Betty; many precious cousins, nephews, one niece; and numerous friends.
We are comforted in our deep loss by God’s presence and wonderful memories of Jean. She was the wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt that many women aspire to be. She was a Godly woman and a Christian example for everyone. Jean never wavered in her faith.
