J.B. Owen Jr

J.B. Owen, Jr., 88, was born on November 19, 1928 in Mathis, Texas, and died on March 5, 2017, in Waco, Texas.J.B. graduated from Texas State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. He retired from Texas Farm Bureau Insurance after 41 years. J.B. was a member of the Rotary Club, Gideons International, Waco Girls Club, and the Woodway City Council. He was an elder at Highland Baptist Church and taught Sunday school for 35 years in various churches.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jesse B. Owen, Sr.; mother, Sarah Margaret Reed Owen; and brothers, Leo, Ray, Loman, Alton, Joe, and Bob.

He is survived by his wife of almost 53 years, Lillian Holley Rector Owen; their three children and their spouses, Richard and Barbara Rector of Marietta, Georgia, Holley and Don Evans of Dallas, Texas, and J. B. III and Sharon Owen of Woodway, Texas. There are nine treasured grandchildren, Cherie Rector Huey and Joshua Rector, Anya Evans Dixon and Christopher Evans, Drew, Maddie, Paige, Allison, and Reagan Owen. He also is survived by his sister, Barbara Sunderman.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday, March 10, in the chapel at Highland Baptist Church, 3014 Maple Ave. A service celebrating his life will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 11, at Highland Baptist Church, along with a fellowship reception to follow. Pastor John Durham officiating.
