Jayhugh Beecher Leutwyler, Jr, 91, of Waco, passed away peacefully at his home. A Memorial Service will be 2:00 pm, Saturday, April 10th, 2021, with a time of visitation with his family following at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Jayhugh was born March 31, 1930 to Jayhugh and Eva Shaw, the oldest of five children, in Mclennan County. He was one of the first graduates of Midway High School in 1948, and serve as their first football captain. Shortly after, he served more than four years in the United States Navy. He was a graduate of Rollins College in Florida. In 1950 he married his high school sweetheart, Oneta Buice, the couple had four children and enjoyed almost 62 years of marriage.
He began his career by owning a tv and radio repair shop in McGregor, he then worked for various aerospace companies until his retirement. After his retirement he worked for the McLennan County Sheriff’s Department, worked quality control in nuclear plants in south Texas and Comanche Peak, and he and his wife, Oneta, served as missionaries starting and building churches in Mexico and across Texas.
He was voracious reader, he enjoyed playing backgammon and canasta.
He was welcomed into Heaven by his beloved wife; daughter, Carra Berry; granddaughter, Beth Leutwyler; brother, Cooke Leutwyler; sisters, Louise Shaw Wilson and Eva Elizabeth Leutwyler.
Left to cherish his memories, sons, Jeb Leutwyler and wife Barbara, Young Leutwyler and wife Sandra; daughter, Mollie Leutwyler Smith; 10 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; 12 great great grandchildren; brothers, Jesse Leutwyler, Tommy Leutwyler; sister, Wanda Glaze; and numerous nieces and nephews.
