Devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend Jan Gohring slipped peacefully into the arms of her Lord and Savior on June 24, 2014. Visitation will be 6 - 8 p.m. Friday, June 27th at Grace Garden Funeral Home. A celebration of her life will be 2 p.m. Saturday, June 28th at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church with her Pastors Ron Durham and Josh Vaughan officiating. In honor of cancer survivors, attendees are encouraged to wear her favorite color, purple, the official color of cancer survivors
A life-long resident of Waco, Jan worked as a sign-language interpreter for 13 years, and truly loved the deaf community, and that love was abundantly returned. She was a long-time member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church where she also served in interpreting music for the worship services. She also spent a great deal of time in the last years helping to raise money for support of cancer patients through the American Cancer Society’s “Relay for Life”.
Rejoicing in her freedom from pain, but deeply feeling her loss is her husband, of almost 33 years, Steve Gohring; son Stephen and wife, Brittany; grandsons, Chandler and Harrison; daughter, Staci Istre and husband, Chris; son Scott, all of Waco; brother Lewis A. Courtade, of Whitney; nieces, nephews, cousins, other dear family members, and countless other friends from anywhere she has ever been.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
