James B. Wayman age 82, of Hamilton, TX passed away at a local nursing facility. A Celebration of Life Service will be 3PM Tuesday March 1, 2011 at the First Baptist Church of Hamilton with Pastor Keith Felton officiating. A private family interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery.
Jim was born August 23, 1928 in Liberty, Missouri to Mesheck and Anna Margaret Wayman. He grew up in Albany, MO and graduated from Albany High School in 1945. He entered the US Navy in October 1945 and served until August 1949. On June 4, 1950 he married Jean Ann Webber and soon relocated to Kansas City, MO where they made their home until August 1968. During that time they had 3 children, Sue Ann, Larry and Jill.
Jim earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from William Jewell College in Liberty, MO in 1965 and a Master’s of Social Work degree from University of Missouri in 1967. He worked in the field of social work with troubled youth for many years prior to becoming a professor of social work at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, TX, retiring in 1992. After traveling and working with Campers on Mission, they settled in Hamilton, TX in 1996. He was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Hamilton where he enjoyed serving in many areas including remodeling the nursery and performing in the Easter pageant. He enjoyed working in his garden, woodworking, fishing and spending time with his dog, Madison. Besides his family, his greatest joy was helping others in whatever way needed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Dorene Graham and Arlene Walters, and grandsons Landon and Bryant Wayman.
He is survived by his wife Jean Ann, of 60 years; daughter Sue Ann Lewis and husband, Bill of Lebanon, MO; son Larry Wayman and wife, Jean of Waco; daughter Jill Scott and husband, Mike, of Stephenville; Brother, Burton Wayman of Denver, CO; grandchildren Nathan Lewis and wife, Heather; Lindsay Schindler and husband, Anthony; Browning Wayman and wife, Taylor; Larson Wayman; Dana Scott; Kara Scott and Shane Scott; great grandsons, Jack and Henry Lewis; sister-in-law Carol Sue Ross; a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Following the service, the family will greet family and friends in the Fellowship Hall.
