James Edgar “Ed” Gordon, 74, of McGregor, passed away Saturday, June 13th, 2015 after many years living with Parkinsons’s disease. Friends and family will gather at Grace Gardens Funeral Home 8220 Woodway Drive at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27, 2015 to visit and celebrate Ed’s life.
Ed was born January 9, 1941, in Tifton, Ga. to Thomas Carlton Gordon and Laura Mae Smith. He lived in Tifton, Ga. where he attended local schools and junior college before entering Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta on the co-operative plan until he earned his bachelor of Electrical Engineering in 1964. He worked his way through Ga. Tech working with the Georgia Power Company in Macon and Atlanta. Ed continued his work with Ga. Power several years before joining M&M Mars in Albany, Ga. then transferred to the Mars plant in Waco as Director of Engineering in August 1978. He was certified as a Professional Engineer in Georgia on January 9, 1969 and in Texas on March 9, 1987. He retired in January 1998.
Prior to retirement, Ed loved to go to our house at Cedar Creek Lake where he enjoyed building the house, working on things, enjoyed boating and the jet ski and just being there. He left his mark on many things there and at our home in McGregor, TX. Ed also enjoyed partner and line dancing to country music. Soon after retirement, he was diagnosed with Parkinsons’s disease. For the past two years he was cared for by the wonderful workers at Wesley Woods then for 5 days by the caring nurses in Providence Hospice until his death.
He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Carlton Gordon; mother, Laura Mae Smith; brother, T.C. Gordon, Jr.
Ed is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann M. Gordon; son, Russell A. Gordon and wife, Sandra Gordon of Frisco, TX; granddaughter, Sabrina Gordon of Frisco; sister, Frances Watkins of LaGrange, Ga.; niece, Phyllis McEachern of LaGrange, Ga.; great-niece, Laura McEachern and Brittney Holle.
