James Leonard Embry, Sr., 69, of Waco, went home to be with the Lord on March 29, 2010 in Arlington, Texas. Services will be at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, April 2, 2010, with Rev. Barry Camp officiating. Visitation will be Thursday April 1, from 6-8 p.m. at Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Jim was born on November 25, 1940 to Larry and Berneice Embry in Fort Worth, Texas. He grew up in Muskogee, Oklahoma and graduated from Muskogee Central High School in 1959. After graduating high school, Jim attended the University of Tulsa, majoring in Business. He attended the University of Tulsa with his older brother, Larry, and both were members of Lamda Chi Alpha fraternity. Jim graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration in 1963 and went to work for Proctor and Gamble as a salesman. He later went to work for Brockway Glass Company, where he would remain a loyal employee and salesman for the next twenty-four years. He would later work for Waco-based Profiles International as a Vice President of Sales until the time of his death. Jim also served his country in the Air National Guard from 1963 until 1968. He served his Lord as a member of the Gideon’s International from 1978 until his death. Jim was also a member of Highland Baptist Church in Waco.
Jim will be remembered by those who knew him for his constant positive attitude, love for family, and devotion to Christ. When not working, he enjoyed golfing with family and friends and spending time with his four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Larry and Berneice Embry. Jim is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Sarah Embry; sons, James Embry, Jr. and wife, Yuko, of Okinawa, Japan, and Jeff Embry and wife, Renna, of Tyler, and daughter, Deborah Embry of Waco; grandchildren, Mason Embry, Dylan Embry, Ella Rose Embry, and Isabella Embry; by his brother, Larry Embry and wife, Mary, of Brenham; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Judy and Ken McLeod of Jackson, South Carolina; many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of close friends.
