James (Jim) Edward Christy, 89 of Riesel, TX passed away on December 2, 2020 at Royal Manor Nursing Home in Waco, TX.
Jim was born on March 13, 1931 in Wellston, Oklahoma to Charles and Marie Christy. He married Alice Cooper on June 12, 1955 and they had four children. Jim was a graduate of Wellston High School and attended Oklahoma State University in Stillwater where he studied to become a veterinarian. His employment took him to the US Government where he was a large animal vet who relocated often across the United States following diseases of these animals.
In his retirement, he and his wife moved to Riesel where they enjoyed the country life and he enjoyed the raising of exotic bantam chickens. He had a great sense of humor and a zest for life allowing people who knew him to refer to him lovingly and respectfully as “that grumpy old man”. He was active in Riesel Lions Club for a time.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, his wife Alice Christy, two sisters, Geraldine Christy and Joyce Burford, his brother, Charles Christy and one son, Frank Christy.
He is survived by his daughter, Mary Lee Eichorn of Ruidoso, NM; James Edward Christy, Jr. and wife Twila of Riesel, TX; Charles R. Christy and wife Ada of Crystal Beach, TX. His grandchildren include: Alexander Christy, Russell Christy, Chris Christy, James Christy III, Meggan Christy, David Ash, Trista Strait and numerous great grandchildren. He is also survived by a longtime friend, Virginia Babbs.
A memorial celebration of life will be planned later in the spring of 2021 at the Christy Farm in Riesel, TX.
