James “Paul” Beene of McGregor passed away Saturday, October 2, 2021, at the age of 69. A visitation will be 1 to 2 P.M. Saturday, October 9, 2021, in the Chapel of Grace Gardens Funeral Home, 8220 Woodway Dr., Waco, Texas. The memorial service will follow at 2:00 P.M. with Chaplain Roger Huff officiating. Private inurnment will be in Rose Mound Cemetery.
Paul was born May 15, 1952, in Texas City, Texas, the son of the late James Roger and Dorothy Evelyn (McClaran) Beene. He was a 1970 graduate of Groesbeck High School and continued his education at Baylor University. On June 5, 1993, he married Phyllis Kay Bailey in Waco, Texas.
For several years he was employed by Downing Brothers. After Precise Hard Chrome recruited him, he was employed with them for many years as chief executive officer. He later owned and operated General Machine and Hydraulics for about twelve years. After a short retirement, he was later employed by Flat Creek RV Resort and Ken Baker Services.
Throughout his life he enjoyed camping and traveling in his RV with family and friends. He loved being Papa to his seven grandchildren, as they were his pride and joy. Attending their sporting events, dance recitals and livestock shows brought him much enjoyment. He attended Harris Creek Baptist Church.
Also preceding him in death was a sister, Nora Pickens; a nephew, Matthew Allen; his in laws, Woodrow and Bertha Bailey.
Survivors include his wife of twenty-eight years, Phyllis Beene; three daughters, Jamie Colvert and husband Jeremy, Miranda Herring and husband Jeff, Shelly Oliver and husband Jeffrey; grandchildren, Connor and Camryn Colvert, Macy, Mason and Jackson Herring, Kinley and Presley Oliver; a sister, Kim Beck and husband James; a nephew Brent Beck along with many other nieces and nephews; a brother and sister-in-law, Greg and Cindy Hastings and his faithful companion Charlie.
For those desiring, the family has suggested the American Heart Association, for memorial contributions.
