Roy was born on February 16, 1928 on a dry land farm 8 miles south of Merkel, Texas to Roy and Iva Baccus. As a child of the depression, he learned at an early age that aggressive hard work was the key to overcoming life’s obstacles. After graduating from the Merkel school system, he enrolled in McMurray University at Abilene, Texas. He enlisted in the US Army in September of 1946 and was soon sent to Japan where he served in the Occupation of Japan. Upon graduating he began work in Dallas as an accountant for the North Texas wildcatter, L. Frank Pitts. He advanced rapidly into managerial positions and became President of the Dallas Production Company, the flagship organization of the Pitts Energy Group. During his tenure the company expanded operations into nine states and was drilling more than 100 oil and gas wells per year. For 25 cherished years they relished life in the slow lane, highlighted by extensive travel throughout the United States and to a myriad of foreign destinations.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife Betty Sue Huckabay in 1983; a son Danny Roy Baccus.
Roy is survived by his wife Bobbie; a son Larry Dodson Baccus and many other extended family.
