Jack Edgecomb Sr., 91, of Hewitt, Texas and formerly of Anderson, Indiana went to be with the Lord on January 31, 2023, at St. Catherine’s Nursing Home in Waco, Texas after a brief illness.
He was born April 28, 1931, in Cadillac, Michigan to Elmer and Doris Edgecomb. In 1940 the family settled in Anderson, Indiana. He graduated from Anderson High School in 1950 and was hired at General Motors Delco Remy Division as a Tool Maker in the Model Shop. He worked there for 41 years retiring at age 60. He served honorably in the US Army from 1951 to 1953. His Basic Training was with the 101st Airborne (Screaming Eagles) Light Infantry Division. He was transferred to the 7th Army, 82nd Ordnance Battalion and was sent to Rhine River Valley Munitions Depot in Saarbrucken, Germany as part of the Occupation Forces of Germany.
He married Norma Bevill in 1953, and they were together for 60 years until her death in 2012. They had three sons: Jack, Jr., Michael, and Patrick. Jack was very active in outdoor activities including camping, boating, and fishing. Jack also loved woodworking and carving. He created many fine wood creations for Norma to paint over the years. Later he was a Member of the Waco Wood Carving Club. The church was a big part of Jack’s life. He was saved at the age of 13 at Park Place Methodist Church (later re-named Park Place United Methodist Church). As a young man he served as a Youth Camp Counselor during summer camps. He was on the Board of Trustees and the Finance and Building Committees. He was also a Sunday school teacher and church maintenance man. After moving to Hewitt, he joined Hewitt United Methodist Church and was a member of the Board of Trustees. Surviving are his three sons and daughter-in-laws: Jack Jr. and Felicita Edgecomb, Hewitt, Texas, Michael and Beth Edgecomb, Rockwall, Texas, and Patrick and Julie Edgecomb, Hewitt, Texas. He also had 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife Norma, he was preceded in death by his parents Elmer and Doris Edgecomb and his siblings, Jorretta May, Gordon Edgecomb, and Robert Edgecomb all of Anderson, Indiana.
We would like to thank the staff of Providence Hospital, St. Catherine’s Nursing Home, and Providence Hospice Team for the excellent care they provided Jack during his final months.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Jack at Hewitt Methodist Church on February 25th, 2023 at 10:30 A.M. Military honors will be conducted by the Fort Hood U.S. Army Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to American Heart Association.
