Jack Adams of Woodway passed away peacefully on December 21, 2009 at home, with his loving family by his side.
Visitation will be Tuesday December 22, from 5 -7 pm, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 23, at 10:00 am, at Grace Gardens Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Ron Durham officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Jack was born on April 5, 1932 in Altus, Arkansas to the late Edward and Julia Adams. He grew up in Arkansas and graduated from Mulberry High School in 1949. He married Patsy Ruth James on December 10, 1950. After their marriage, they moved to Merced, California where he was stationed at Castle Air Force Base. He served in the Air Force from 1955 to 1959 and served in the Korean War in Guam. He and his wife moved to Waco in 1962. He was in retail business for thirty one years at McCroy’s Five and Dime, Gibson’s Discount Center and Service Merchandise, retiring in 1993. After his retirement he worked at Woodway Car Center and A&W Motors in McGregor. He worked until November, doing what he loved which was working with his friends at the car lots. Jack was faithful in giving to any charity or those in need and he made many lasting friendships and was loved and admired by all. He was a longtime and faithful member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the Waco Scottish Rite Bodies.
Jack is survived by his wife of fifty nine years, Patsy Adams; daughters; Elizabeth Garrett and husband Todd of Robinson, Jackie Sharber of Woodway, and Patti Pursley and husband David of Waco; brothers Ken Adams and wife Katie of Kingman, AZ, Tom Adams and friend Darryl Adkins of St. Louis, MO; sister Sue Sellers and husband E.J. of Tulsa, OK; sister-in-law, Ruby Weatherl of Mulberry, Arkansas; 5 grandchildren, Daniel Ochoa and wife Stephanie, Christopher Ochoa and wife Brittany, Wesley Young and wife Nicole, Tony Young and wife Brenda, and Kyle Sharber; and 8 great grandchildren, Chloe, Tristan, Alexander, Abigail, Layden, Evan, Tyler and Dawson and 2 soon to be great grandchildren in January and March of next year, Jackson and Jack.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons and his friend Mark Alexander.
Jack’s family would like to give Dr. James Graham and the staff of Providence Hospice a special thanks for their care and support, as well as granddaughter Brenda Young R.N. for her loving and tender care.
