Ignacio “Nacho” Estrada 91, of Hewitt, TX entered eternal life on Sunday, July 19, 2020 at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Hillcrest with his wife and three children by his side.
The family will have a visitation, Rosary, Mass of Christian burial and interment. All services will be private.
Ignacio was born February 1, 1929, in Temple, TX to Petronilo and Bonifacia (Hernandez) Estrada.
He married Virginia Garibay on February 8, 1953 in Waco, TX.
Ignacio served in the United States Navy, the United States Air Force and the Texas National Guard. He retired from the United States Army having served 29 years, 11 months, 11 days. Ignacio served in the Korean War. Ignacio retired from the VA Hospital in Waco, TX following 18 years of service. Following his retirement, he attended TSTI where he learned cool engine repair. He enjoyed working on lawn mowers as a hobby. He also worked as a carpenter’s helper.
Ignacio was a lifelong Catholic and was a member of St. Jerome Catholic Church in Waco, TX. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus.
Ignacio was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, Mateo Estrada, Marcela Carrillo, Gabriel Estrada, Juana Rosas and Librada Hines.
Ignacio leaves behind his wife of 67 years, Virginia of Hewitt; children Joy Gilbert and husband Gene of Hewitt, Laura Gonzalez of Hewitt, Charles Estrada and wife Lucy of Waco; grandchildren, Angela Casarez of Waco, Jennifer Edwards and husband Michael of Round Rock, Felix Gonzalez, Jr. of Hewitt, Erica Stafford and Codi of Waco, Ryan Estrada and wife Shelby of Arlington, Catherine Estrada of Waco; great-grandchildren, Veronica and Vanessa Schoenduby of Round Rock, Emilia Edwards of Round Rock, Ayden, Adelina, and Adriana Estrada of Arlington; brothers Frank Estrada of San Antonio, Isabel Matamoros of Belton, Tony Matamoros of Temple; special cousin Anselma Arispe and numerous other relatives.
Pallbearers will be grandsons, Felix Gonzalez, Jr. and Ryan Estrada. Honorary Pallbearer will be son-in-law Gene Gilbert.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Westview Manor in McGregor for their love and care during Ignacio’s final three years, especially Hall 4. The family would also like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Baylor Scott & White Medical Center – Hillcrest’s emergency department, 6 South and 4 South for the care they provided him during his final week of life. Lastly, the family would like to thank Angela Casarez for her dedicated nursing care and help that she gave her grandfather.
