Howard McCann of Georgetown, formally of College Station, died suddenly Thursday, October 21, 2015, at the age of 79. Visitation will be 1 to 2 P.M. Saturday at Crawford First United Methodist Church with funeral services following at 2 P.M. Rev. Robin Young will officiate at the service. Private interment will be in Crawford Cemetery under the direction of Grace Gardens Funeral Home.
Mr. McCann was born July 17, 1936, in Houston, Texas, the son of the late Charles Howard and Emma Edna (Voight) McCann. He graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Civil Engineering. Later he continued his education at Texas A&M University where he earned a Masters Degree and a PHD in Civil Engineering. Much of his life was spent in the transportation business with the USDOT planning interstate highways.
Mr. McCann served his country in the United States Army and received an honorable discharge as a 2nd Lt. in 1961.
On March 12, 1977, he married the former Barbara Ann Place, from Crawford on a hike and bike trail in Austin, Texas. The couple made their home in College Station until recently moving to Georgetown in 2015.
Survivors include his wife Barbara of thirty-eight years; two daughters, Shelagh Herzog and husband Bruce, Elaine Welch and husband Gary; a son Jimmy Nichols and wife Linda; grandchildren, David Saunders, Hillary Saunders, Zoe Herzog, Elliott Herzog, Oliver Herzog, Rita Herzog, Hannah Herzog, Casey Welch, Amanda Hood, Megan Shope and Katie Nichols.
