Dub was born in Ft. Worth, Texas to Horace William Martin and Sudie S. Martin. Dub served his country in World War II as a member of the Army Air Corp. He was present at the first testing of the atomic bomb at Alamogordo Air Force Base. The Waco Zoo was started in his pet store, Tropical Paradise. He was one of the founders of the Waco zoological society and served as president. He owned Martins Trader Warehouse from which he furnished antiques to such T. V. shows as Grizzly Adams and Lonesome Dove. Dub and Rosa loved trade shows and were vendors at gun, coin, rock and Sami Shows. In his younger days he was an outdoorsman. He loved hunting, from deer to mountain lions. He enjoyed deep sea fishing as well as fishing the lakes and rivers.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Donald Ray Martin, sister, Elouise Martin, three children, Lonnie Ray Martin, Rita Louise Martin-Chambers and Rebecca ( Becky) Martin-Herron.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Rosa Olivia Martin, son, William ( Bill-Billy) Martin and his wife Mary of Hewitt, brother, Wallace E. Martin and his wife Dorothy of Woodway, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of the I.C. U. Unit at the Temple VA and the staff of the hospice unit building 11 of the Waco VA for outstanding care for our loved one.
