Henry Louis Fleischhauer, Sr. passed away December 15, 2015 in Hewitt, Texas at the age of
91. He was born September 1, 1924, in the North Corner area of Falls County, near Riesel, Texas, where he lived until his induction into the U.S. Army in December 1943.
Assigned to the 78th Infantry Division, he saw combat in the Battle of Bulge and crossed into Germany at the Remagen Bridge within days of its capture, witnessing its collapse from the German side of the Rhine. His reconnaissance duties frequently found him alone behind enemy lines. His courage and resourcefulness in war was typical of his generation.
He married Dorothy King of Waco in 1947, and loved her devotedly for 65 years until her passing. He worked for General Electric for 39 years, retiring in Austin Texas. He was a charter member of Austin Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kurt A. Fleischhauer and Lydia Walter Fleischhauer,
and his wife. He is survived by son Henry Louis, Jr. and wife Nancy of Waco; son David of
Bixby, OK; grandson Jonathan Fleischhauer and wife Jana; granddaughter Lauren Tighe and
husband Nick, of Waco; and one great-grandchild, Jo Lynn Fleischhauer.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer
Society to honor his wife, or a charity of your choosing.
Services will be held 1 :00 PM, Friday, December 18, 2015 at Grace Gardens Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 -6:00 PM.
